Ottawa 2017 partners with Hydro Ottawa to power the sesquicentennial celebrations in the nation’s capital
Ottawa – The Ottawa 2017 Bureau and Mayor Jim Watson, in collaboration with lead partner CIBC, are pleased to welcome Hydro Ottawa as an Official Program Partner for Canada’s 150th birthday celebrations in the nation’s capital.
A community-owned asset since 1916, Hydro Ottawa will welcome the public to their newly renovated hydroelectric generating station on Booth Street, from late September to early November for an Ottawa 2017 Signature Event featuring the magnificence of the Chaudière Falls. In addition to offering public access to the Chaudière Falls for the first time in more than 100 years, Hydro Ottawa will provide the electricity for the ambient light show that will showcase the natural beauty of the falls and its Indigenous heritage.
“This year, as Ottawa welcomes millions of visitors from across Canada and around the world, we are proud to work with Hydro Ottawa to highlight Canadian history, culture and landmarks through inspirational components of our Ottawa 2017 programming,” said Mayor Jim Watson.
“For the last 100 years, Hydro Ottawa has been powering the growth and prosperity of the nation’s capital. As a community company, we are proud to support Ottawa 2017 as we welcome millions of visitors to celebrate this milestone,” said Bryce Conrad, Hydro Ottawa President and Chief Executive Officer.
“We are thrilled to work with Hydro Ottawa to achieve one of the late Jean Pigott’s dreams by giving residents and visitors access to the edge of the Chaudière Falls. We are also happy to benefit from their expertise in bringing to life Inspiration Village and La Machine, two key Ottawa 2017 programs,” said Guy Laflamme, Executive Director of the Ottawa 2017 Bureau.
Canada’s 150th anniversary celebrations will offer Canadians and visitors from around the world an exceptional and memorable year of high-caliber experiences while bringing a record number of visitors to Ottawa in 2017 to celebrate this important milestone for our country.
Ottawa 2017 thanks its lead partner CIBC, premier partner Bell, the Government of Ontario (www.ontario.ca/150 #ontario150) and the Government of Canada (www.canada.ca/150 #canada150) for their contributions in helping to deliver twelve full months of bold events, immersive experiences and all-out celebrations.
